On this day 10 years ago, three young and relatively unknown children walked down a red carpet in London, England. Today, Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) are all grown up and international superstars. What began as a hugely successful book series ended up becoming an eight part feature film collection that has grossed more than $7.5 billion worldwide.
When the three stars walked their first red carpet in 2001, Radcliffe was 11, Watson was 9, and Grint was 11.
J. K. Rowling had only written the first four books in the series before the first movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, was released.
Although the book and movie series has now come to a close, the reach and impact of Harry Potter continues to grow.
